That’s a wrap!

In the words of the sausage king of Gresham, Reverend Randall, “Great Success!”

We crammed the walls of our space with the excited chatter of divers, old and new; shared stories and made plans; and toasted the future. And then came the prizes!

Who Won What?

The small things first… mask and snorkel prize: one winner!

Congratulations to Amanda, who picked a Cressi Matrix mask in Olive Drab (sorry Dogar!) and paired it with a black-on-black Alpha Ultra Dry snorkel. Amanda is doing her open water certification with us in February- a well-deserved win!

Amanda was one of our four, two-time winners!

As luck would have it, Amanda also walked away with our $150 coffee basket containing gift cards to multiple local coffee shops, and ground bean bags of local coffee, along with cookies to go along with it all. Way to go Amanda!

A one-of-a-kind Fashlight

One of our Dive Team members, Steve “Taz” won this one-of-a-kind Black Molly IV. Spartan Scuba bought one of each of these lights when we started our dealership with BigBlue Dive Lights. Doc didn’t like the color options, so he switched caps! What Taz won was a purple and black 1800 lumen photo dive light; “Doc’s Blend”, we’ll call it.

Congratulations, Taz. May your underwater photos be epic!

Who Won the Reg Kit?

Full Cressi Regulator Kit

Another well-deserved win! This one, a complete regulator kit, complete with a T10-SC Cromo first stage, a Galaxy-R second stage, and Cressi MG Balanced Octo, went to our second of three open water students going to Cozumel in February. Talk about a perfect matchup!

Congratulations, Gail, on a perfect win. We can’t wait to get you in the water with your new kit!

Let's Talk Perigrine Dive Computer

A massive congratulations to Breanne for walking away with not just a complimentary specialty course, courtesy of Chris Lucier the regional rep for International Training and Spartan Scuba, but also one of the first computers Spartan Scuba purchased when opening our Shearwater dealership!

This is especially fitting as Breanne was also the very first open water certification under Spartan Scuba. Breanne, we couldn’t be more proud of you for winning, and are excited to get you back in the water for your Advanced Adventure training! Enjoy your Shearwater Peregrine dive computer.

The Other Specialty Course Winners

There were three more specialty course winners, all of which are Spartan Scuba offered, but one in connection with Chris again.

Congratulations to Brooke, who chose Night/Limited Visibility (by Spartan Scuba); and Ross, another two-time winner who decided to go for Dry Suit (courtesy of Chris and Spartan Scuba) and Advanced Adventure (Spartan Scuba).

White's Meat Basket and Doc's Wine Cellar

This was a fun one for sure!

With lots of entries in both, a huge congrats to Courtney for walking away with the huge gift basket from Reverend Randall and White’s Country Meats ($100 gift card and tons of meat rubs!), and then also to Wendy Randall for taking home the coveted 6 bottles from Doc’s private reserve. Good pick on choosing the reds, Wendy.

And Last, but NOT Least...

A massive congratulations to Ryan, who won two prizes:

First, Ryan won the open water diver certification package, courtesy of Chris Lucier and Spartan Scuba. As a fellow veteran searching for peace and tranquility, this one got Doc right in the feels. We’re very happy that Ryan won this prize and are excited to see where this adventure takes him!

Ryan also won the highly ticketed gift certificate for a tattoo, courtesy of Andy Blubaum. Andy has done much of Doc’s personal art and has been a personal friend of his for going on two decades. Currently, Andy is slinging ink at Sanctuary Tattoo & Piercing. Give him a shout for you custom ink when you’re ready to become a little more colorful!

Congratulations again, Ryan. Now you can get SCUBA certified and THEN get a tattoo to commemorate!

SnowCap Recap

While it wasn’t the boon we were hoping for, Spartan Scuba brought in $104 in cash and four HUGE bags of dry foods for SnowCap. Not bad for our first year of doing this.

Doc decided it wasn’t quite enough, so he doubled the cash from his own pocket!

Thank you, Doc, and to all of the divers who ‘fed’ into this massively worthwhile charity.

The end of One Year - The Beginning of Another

As we close the books on 2023, we are extremely grateful to each and every person that has reached out in support of our little shop. We are growing slowly, and making a concerted effort to avoid stepping on the toes of those that came before us, yet still trying to forge ahead with our mission and goals.

If you haven’t dived with us yet, or taken one of our classes, or been to one of our monthly gatherings, then perhaps try and pencil it in for 2024. We’re only going to get better because of the people we surround ourselves with- we’d like you to be part of it!

With more trips being scheduled, and more product lines coming to the shop, I can only promise you one thing… the last Third Thursday of 2024 is going to be EPIC… I think we’ll give away a dive trip.

Stay tuned! And Happy New Year!

Dr Eric "Doc" Strand

After being injured in the line of duty while serving in the Marines, SSGT Strand transitioned to Dr. Strand, and spent the next 25 years practicing medicine, dedicating his time and energy to bringing better health and enlightenment to the community he served. After learning to dive with his family, he quickly felt a growing passion for the underwater world: the peace and tranquility was greater than any form of meditation he'd ever tried. SCUBA diving became the hobby at first, then moved slowly into the next, and hopefully last profession. A published author and poet, Doc's passion for creativity coupled with his experiences and travels abroad impact not only his writing style, but also his passion for life, teaching, SCUBA diving, and medicine.
