Independent Air Source Diver

This course is designed to train divers in the use of an independent, self-contained, alternate Air Source breathing system for sport divers. It’s key priority is to familiarize the individual with the skills, knowledge, procedures, techniques, benefits, and problem solving of using such a system.

Cost of course includes: class time with instructor(s); two open water dives; registration and certification card upon successful completion. Air fills, including Nitrox, and equipment rentals, are not organically included.

Who this course is for:

  • The certified diver looking to learn techniques used during diving with an additional air source, and to learn more about the benefits of doing so in the underwater world

Course prerequisites:

  • SDI Open Water Scuba Diver, or equivalent
  • Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent

  • Practice independent air source system skills
    • Activate, breathe, signal ascent, re-stow
  • Proper safety stop while managing alternative air source
  • Exit safely with additional gear
  • Log dives

  • Complete all open water requirements efficiently
  • Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution
