Description
The Underwater Pumpkin Carving Diver specialty course is intended to be fun, while increasing a diver’s overall understanding and accomplishment of buoyancy skills.
Cost of course includes: time with instructor(s); one open water dive; registration and certification upon completion. Does not include gear rental, air/nitrox fills, or pumpkin and cutting tools. 🎃
Student Prerequisites
- Minimum Age 18, 10 with parental consent. Any participants under the age of 15 must dive with a certified parent or legal guardian and must dive within the limits of their training and certification.
- SDI Open Water SCUBA Diver/Junior Open Water SCUBA Diver (or equivalent)
The Underwater Pumpkin Carving Diver Course Structure and Duration
- Confined or open water execution
- One (1) dive is required with complete brief and debrief by the instructor
- A minimum of one (1) hour classroom time is recommended
- Maximum depth not to exceed the certification limit of the student
Approved Outline
Instructors may use any additional text or materials that they feel help present these topics. The following topics must be covered:
- Reasons for conducting this type of dive
- Type of pumpkin to be used and pre-dive preparation
- How to descend and ascend with a pumpkin
- Pre-dive and underwater preparation and cutting
- Mess bag
- Holding it
- Pre-cut (let air vent out)
- Different cutting tools
- Safety factors
- Using cutting tools
- Buoyancy considerations
Students are required to successfully complete the following to achieve the specialty rating of Underwater Pumpkin Carving Diver:
Open Water Dive 1
- Test and check all equipment
- Familiarization with area
- Descend to planed depth and do not exceed any pre-planned limits
- Conduct planned pumpkin carving activities
- Ascend with safety stop
