Description
The Team Diving course is not approved for commercial / professional group guiding and only allows independent diving in private teams. The diver should be familiarized in theory and practice with the basic elements of team diving and their interaction.
Cost of course includes: time with instructor(s); 3 open water dives; registration and certification upon successful completion of course. Does not include air/nitrox fills, gear rental, travel, and/or lodging expenses.
After completion of the Team Diving course the diver should:
- Know the basic elements of team diving
- Have experience to be able to efficiently interact within the diving team
- Be able to recognize characteristics of team members that are both beneficial and detrimental
- Be able to respond to team members in an emergency or who need assistance
- Be able to ensure communication within dive teams
- Be able to plan and conduct dives
- Be able to recognize the equipment needs for the planned dives
Student Prerequisites
- SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent
- Minimum Age 18 years, 15 with written consent of parent or guardian
- Provide proof of a minimum of 15 logged dives
Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements
Students are required to successfully complete the following Team Diver skills:
- Open water dive 1
- Preparation and planning of the dive within the allowed limits of the team members
- Briefing
- Buddy check
- Team control
- Recognize problems and react correctly
- Assemble and disassemble diving equipment
- Entry and exit
- Controlled descents and ascents
- Buddy system techniques
- Setting the signal buoy (SMB)
- Ascend to safety stop
- Debriefing
- Open water dive 2
- Preparation and planning of the dive within the allowed limits of the team members

- Recognize problems and react correctly

In order to complete this course, students must:
- Demonstrate mature and sound judgment concerning team diving planning and execution.
