The SDI Divemaster course is your gateway to the professional ranks of scuba diving. This is not just another certification card—it is a transformation. There is a unique truth in professional diving: the Divemaster rating is the absolute peak of your technical diving knowledge. While subsequent instructor courses teach you how to teach, the Divemaster curriculum is where your personal diving mastery tops out. This is where you master the complex physics of gas laws, the intricate physiology of decompression sickness, the environmental sciences of water movement, and advanced marine equipment mechanics.

As an SDI Divemaster, you will possess the ultimate foundation of diving theory and water mastery, qualifying you to lead certified divers, assist instructors during training, and manage real-world dive site operations with absolute confidence.

What You Will Learn

Our curriculum pushes your theoretical knowledge, watermanship skills, and problem-solving abilities to the highest standard. The program breaks down into three core phases:

• Dive Mastery Theory: An exhaustive dive into diving physics, human physiology, decompression theory, the marine environment, and dive equipment.
• Watermanship & Stamina: Demanding, timed physical assessments designed to prove your endurance, self-rescue capabilities, and comfort in challenging conditions.
• Leadership & Group Management: Practical application of risk management, underwater group control, navigation, briefing techniques, and real-time dive site accident management.

Prerequisites

Because this is a professional leadership certification, the entry requirements ensure you already have a rock-solid foundation in the water:

• Minimum Age: 18 years old.
• Certification Requirements:
  • SDI Advanced Adventure Diver (or equivalent)
  • SDI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
• Safety Credentials: Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Provider certifications.
• Experience: A minimum of 40 logged dives is required to begin the course. (Note: A minimum of 60 logged dives is required for final professional registration and graduation).
• Medical Fitness: A current physician-signed medical questionnaire approving you for professional diving activities.

Professional Privileges

Upon successful completion of the course and registration with SDI, you are authorized to:

• Lead and guide certified divers on recreational excursions.
• Assist active status SDI Instructors during confined and open water training courses.
• Conduct the SDI Snorkeler and Inactive Diver Refresher programs independently.
• Take the ultimate next step: enroll in the SDI Assistant Instructor or Instructor Course.
