This upcoming weekend, July 17–20, our current flock of Divemaster Candidates will face their final evaluations up at our usual stomping grounds at the Sunrise Resort on Hood Canal. It is the culmination of months of intense grit, exhaustive stamina tests, and deep academic focus.

There is a unique truth in the industry about the Divemaster “rank” that often goes unsaid: this is the absolute peak of your diving knowledge.

While moving up the professional ladder into instructor roles will teach you how to teach others, you will never learn more about raw scuba diving than you do right here. No higher certification forces you to dig deeper into the complex physics of gas laws, the intricate physiology of decompression sickness, or the nuanced mechanics of dive planning. A Divemaster doesn’t just guide; they hold the master keys to the science of the underwater world. They are the ultimate problem solvers, managing chaos before it even starts.

At Spartan SCUBA & Dive Team, we are incredibly proud that so many of our team members choose to take this profound foundation and progress even further, stepping up to become Instructors and even Instructor Trainers. But if you strip away the extra badges and the teaching credentials, the truth remains: at the end of the day, we are all Divemasters.
