SUMMARY:Sunrise SCUBA Weekend in July
DESCRIPTION:Sunrise SCUBA Weekend in July: Return to the Emerald Crucible\nIf our June excursion to Hood Canal left you wanting more\, or if you simply managed to miss it because you were busy doing less important things (like working)\, you are in luck. The Spartan SCUBA team is heading back to the fjord for an extended summer residency. \nJoin us for an unforgettable scuba weekend experience as we explore the depths of Hood Canal with the Spartan SCUBA team. \nFrom Friday\, July 17th through Monday\, July 20th\, 2026\, we will be stationed at Sunrise Resort on Hood Canal. This isn’t just a quick splash-and-dash; it’s a full immersion into the Emerald Crucible\, where the water is green\, the plumose anemones are giant\, and the wolf eels are judging your trim. \nWhether you are looking to finish up a certification\, log some advanced training\, or just burn through a few cylinders with good company\, this extended weekend is built for it. \nThis is not just any weekend; it’s a dedicated scuba weekend where you can refine your skills and enjoy the underwater wonders. \nThe Master Manifest of the SCUBA Weekend in July\nPrepare yourself for a thrilling scuba weekend filled with excitement and adventure. \n\nFriday\, July 17th – The Vanguard (Fun Diving): We arrive\, unload\, and immediately hit the water for a day of pure\, unadulterated fun diving. No tasks\, no slates—just executing solid dive profiles\, checking our weighting\, and saying hello to the local marine life.\nSaturday\, July 18th & Sunday\, July 19th – The Main Event (Working Dives): This is our dedicated training and skill-building window. If you have boxes to check\, specializations to master\, or open water evaluations to complete\, this is where the magic happens under the direct supervision of the Spartan crew. The two days of training during this scuba weekend will enhance your diving proficiency significantly.\nMonday\, July 20th – The Slow Pack Out and Bounce: We sleep in\, dry the gear\, consume excessive amounts of caffeine\, and execute a highly calculated\, incredibly casual pack-out before hitting the road back home.\n\n \nResort Logistics & The Bunk Room Lottery\nWe will be operating directly out of the beautiful Sunrise Resort on Hood Canal. For those who want to stay right where the action is\, we have a premium logistical shortcut. \nDon’t miss out on this amazing scuba weekend; the logistics are all set for you to dive right in! \nThe Spartan crew has secured the shared housing space\, and we have exactly three (3) open spaces available in the bunk room. \n\nThe Cost: $60 per night.\nThe Rules: This is a strict “first-ordered\, first-to-get-a-bed” situation. If you want the convenience of rolling out of bed directly onto the dive dock without paying full cabin prices\, do not hesitate. Once these three slots are claimed\, you are on your own to secure independent lodging at the resort or nearby.\n\nSustenance & Survival (The Food Plan)\nWe believe in diving hard and eating well. To keep things easy\, we will be heading into town as a group on Friday and Saturday evenings to swap dive stories over dinner. Our targets for evening fuel are either the newly remodeled (HA!) Model T Pub & Eatery or the excellent Mexican fare at El Puerto De Angeles. \nOur evening gatherings during this scuba weekend will be the perfect opportunity to share stories and laughs. \nFor your daytime needs\, the rooms at Sunrise Resort come equipped with mini-fridges\, microwaves\, and tiny coffee makers. We highly recommend hitting the grocery store beforehand to stock up on your favorite breakfast items\, surface interval snacks\, and mid-day hydration supplies. \nGear up and get ready for a memorable scuba weekend that you won’t want to miss. \nWhat to Bring (Beyond the Absolute Basics)\nAside from your standard cold-water kit\, your sense of adventure\, and a functional drysuit zipper\, please remember: \n\nThermal Protection: It’s July in the Pacific Northwest\, which means it might be sunny topside\, but the water down deep remains delightfully\, crisp-ly cold. Do not skimp on your undergarments.\nA Camp Chair: Essential for the surface intervals where we sit around the sidelines and discuss exactly how big that lingcod actually was.\n\nA camp chair is essential for relaxation during our scenic scuba weekend breaks. \nFor a full breakdown of the site layout\, amenities\, and what makes this specific stretch of water so legendary\, head over to our internal Spartan Sunrise Hub. \nClear your calendar\, claim your bunk space before someone else does\, and let’s go paint the Canal Spartan red. \nLet’s make this scuba weekend one for the books!

SUMMARY:Divemaster - The Final Test
DESCRIPTION:The Ultimate Peak of Diving Knowledge: Celebrating Our Divemaster Candidates \nThis upcoming weekend\, July 17–20\, our current flock of Divemaster Candidates will face their final evaluations up at our usual stomping grounds at the Sunrise Resort on Hood Canal. It is the culmination of months of intense grit\, exhaustive stamina tests\, and deep academic focus. \nThere is a unique truth in the industry about the Divemaster “rank” that often goes unsaid: this is the absolute peak of your diving knowledge. \nWhile moving up the professional ladder into instructor roles will teach you how to teach others\, you will never learn more about raw scuba diving than you do right here. No higher certification forces you to dig deeper into the complex physics of gas laws\, the intricate physiology of decompression sickness\, or the nuanced mechanics of dive planning. A Divemaster doesn’t just guide; they hold the master keys to the science of the underwater world. They are the ultimate problem solvers\, managing chaos before it even starts. \nAt Spartan SCUBA & Dive Team\, we are incredibly proud that so many of our team members choose to take this profound foundation and progress even further\, stepping up to become Instructors and even Instructor Trainers. But if you strip away the extra badges and the teaching credentials\, the truth remains: at the end of the day\, we are all Divemasters. It is the shared DNA of every leader in the water\, the baseline of respect\, and the actual working backbone of any dive operation worldwide. \nTo our candidates heading up to Hoodsport: the water is cold\, the standards are uncompromising\, and you have earned every bit of your place here. Finish strong. \nFor those ready to take the first step into true diving leadership\, check out our Spartan SCUBA Divemaster Course. If you want to see exactly what it takes to clear this bar\, you can read through the official SDI Divemaster Standards and Procedures.

SUMMARY:IEC - Saturday\, July 18th
DESCRIPTION:What’s Happening at the Facility: IDC & IEC Sessions\nEver wonder what goes into training the next generation of scuba professionals? \nRight now\, we are running our Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC). These sessions aren’t open for registration—our current candidates are already deep in the zone—but we wanted to give a quick behind-the-scenes look at what these dedicated divers are tackling. \nThe Path to Becoming an Instructor\nReaching the IDC/IEC level takes immense commitment\, sharp focus\, and a lot of logged time underwater. \n\nThe IDC is where experienced divers transition into educators. It focuses on mastering dive theory\, learning how to deliver crisp classroom presentations\, and perfecting the art of teaching skills in both confined and open water.\nThe IEC is the final evaluation phase. This is the ultimate test where an independent evaluator assesses the candidates to ensure their teaching ability\, rescue skills\, and safety standards are absolutely flawless.\n\nIt is rigorous\, challenging\, and incredibly rewarding. \nWhy We Train SDI Instructors\nWe choose to train instructors through Scuba Diving International (SDI) because we believe it creates the best educators in the industry. \nSDI revolutionized dive training by introducing the “Instructor Led” philosophy. Instead of forcing students into a rigid\, cookie-cutter box\, SDI empowers its instructors to adapt courses to the local environment and the unique needs of individual students. It prioritizes practical\, real-world diving skills—like teaching buoyancy and trim right from day one—rather than outdated\, knees-on-the-bottom drills. \nBeing an SDI Instructor means having the flexibility to teach creatively\, the support of a forward-thinking organization\, and the privilege of minting confident\, capable\, and safe divers. \nHuge respect to our candidates putting in the work right now to earn their stripes. Stay tuned as they close in on the finish line!

SUMMARY:Clear Lake Diving - July
DESCRIPTION:The Clear Lake Diving Expedition: Bucket Lists and Sub-Arctic Thermoclines\nSome lakes are for casual splashing\, while others are for testing the structural integrity of your thermal undergarments and your mental fortitude. Clear Lake stands out as a premier destination for divers looking for an unforgettable adventure\, filled with rich aquatic life and stunning scenery. The lake’s unique geological features and crystal-clear waters provide a rare opportunity to witness underwater ecosystems like few others. This is the latter\, and it promises an experience that goes beyond mere recreation. For those seeking excitement\, clear lake diving offers a chance to explore one of the most beautiful diving spots around. \nJoin us on Sunday\, July 19th\, 2026\, as the incomparable Reverend Randell leads a convoy of hearty Oregon lake-divers to Clear Lake near Sisters\, Oregon. For many PNW divers\, Clear Lake is an absolute ‘bucket list’ destination due to its jaw-dropping\, crystal-clear visibility and diverse underwater environments. With depths that reveal fascinating geological formations\, divers can explore rock formations\, submerged trees\, and an array of fish species such as trout and bass. However\, let’s be perfectly direct: this dive is not for the faint of heart\, or the easily chilled. This lake offers a thrilling and challenging experience\, ideal for seasoned divers looking to expand their horizons. \nWhether you’re a novice or a seasoned pro\, clear lake diving is an adventure you won’t want to miss. The thrill of navigating through the depths of Clear Lake adds a unique element to your diving experience. \nThere is no cozy\, warm surface layer here to ease you into the experience. The temperature profile shifts rapidly from cold to much colder\, to an immediate holy shit\, that’s cold! Wetsuits are strictly not recommended for this environment. This is a job for a well-insulated drysuit or an organic layer of instant blubber. Those who wish to dive in these conditions should prepare their gear accordingly and be mentally ready for the temperature shock. Bring additional thermal layers to wear under your drysuit\, as they will help keep you warm during your dives. If you want to see the stunning underwater clarity without your teeth chattering through your regulator\, dress for absolute success. \nPlease also note that you must ensure that your first and second stage regulators are certified for cold water use. This is not your grandma’s tropical jaunt off the coast of Playa del Everywhere in Mexico! Using equipment designed for warmer climates could lead to serious malfunctions or issues under these colder conditions\, so make sure to check with your local dive shop if you’re unsure about the specifications of your gear. \nThe Master Schedule for Clear Lake Diving\n\n0700 Hours – Encampment & Arrival: The Reverend will be on-site early to secure our staging area and parking. Arrive at 0700 sharp to claim your spot\, set up your gear\, and mentally prepare for the thermocline.\nThe Midday Thaw (The Wiener Roast): Because you will desperately need to replace lost body heat after logging some bottom time\, the Rev’s griddle is officially back in play. We are providing high-quality sausages and brats for lunch\, alongside plenty of drinks.\n1500 Hours – The Pack Out: We will have the trucks loaded and be ready to roll back down the mountain by three in the afternoon.\n\nThe Dive Plan: Exploring Clear Lake’s Underwater Wonderland\nThe Reverend will be personally leading two distinct guided dives to showcase the best of this volcanic wonder. This is a standard “two-tank” dive day\, but you are welcome to splash as many times as you and your buddy want\, provided you are diving within your training\, certification levels\, and gas reserves. The morning dive will take you to explore the northern section of the lake\, which is known for its dramatic underwater landscapes. The second dive will venture into the southern part\, where visibility can sometimes exceed 50 feet\, allowing divers to witness the vibrant life that thrives in these pristine waters. \nThis clear lake diving experience will allow you to see the stunning underwater clarity that sets Clear Lake apart from other diving locations. \nSpartan SCUBA will have our standard full suite of on-site emergency resources and dive professionals on the shoreline to handle logistics\, offer equipment assistance\, or just hand you a hot bratwurst when you crawl out of the water. Our team is dedicated to ensuring your safety and comfort throughout the day. In addition to emergency gear\, we also provide access to pre adventure equipment rentals and post dive air fills if needed. Be sure to communicate with our team if you require assistance at any point during your dives. \nWhen you dive with us\, you can expect the best support for your clear lake diving adventure\, including professional guidance and safety measures. \nLogistics\, Costs\, and Admin\nAdmission to this premium mountain excursion is $50 per diver. Your fee gets you top-tier Spartan logistics support\, hot lunch\, and your choice of: \nOur event is designed for anyone interested in clear lake diving\, creating a community atmosphere for all participants. \n\nTwo (2) air-fills at Spartan HQ ahead of Sunday if you are using your own tanks.\nA chance to connect with fellow divers and share stories\, experiences\, and tips about diving. Creating a community atmosphere is one of the goals of this event\, making it not just a dive trip but a chance to forge lasting friendships.\nAccess to post-dive briefings where divers can discuss their experiences and share tips on improving dive techniques. This is a great opportunity to learn from each other and enhance your skills.\nA guided tour of the unique underwater features of Clear Lake by our experienced dive instructors. They will share insights into the lake’s ecosystem and dive safety tips\, ensuring you have a safe and educational experience.\nTwo (2) tank rentals for the day\, provided by the shop.\n\nNote: To keep Sunday afternoon relaxed\, all rental cylinders are due back at the Spartan shop the following day\, Monday\, July 20th. \nPrepare yourself for an exhilarating experience in clear lake diving\, where every dive brings new discoveries. \nThe Fine Print: \n\nFees: Admission does not include travel or individual parking/day-use fees at Clear Lake. Handle your own vehicle passes to ensure your arrival and parking are smooth. It’s wise to carpool where possible\, as space can be limited during busy periods.\nPaperwork: No waiver\, no bubbles. All divers must complete the SDI Liability Waiver for Guided Dives before touching the water.\n\nCheck your drysuit valves\, double up on your fleece layers\, and get ready for an incredible diving adventure. As we embark on this unforgettable journey into the depths of Clear Lake\, don’t forget to soak in the breathtaking scenery both underwater and above. This trip promises to check a major dive off the bucket list while making memories to last a lifetime. Dive into the adventure and join us for some exceptional clear lake diving! \nJoin us and experience the joy of clear lake diving\, a truly unforgettable adventure that promises to check a major dive off your bucket list. \nThis is also a great opportunity to attain your dry suit certification and save on gear rentals. If you sign up to challenge the SDI Dry Suit course with us at this event\, not only will you save on the price of your course\, but you’re dry suit rental will be included at no charge! For more details on the Spartan SCUBA Dry Suit course\, please follow this link. To purchase\, simply select the “Dry Suit Add-On Course” to your Clear Lake ticket (both are required)\, and we’ll take care of the rest.

SUMMARY:Lost Lake Diving - July
DESCRIPTION:The Great Lost Lake Diving – Salvage: Finding What Was Never Yours\nThey say that nothing is truly lost until your mother can’t find it. In the Pacific Northwest\, however\, we say that nothing is truly lost until it drops off a rental kayak and plunges into the depths. If you have ever wanted to turn your scuba certification into a highly lucrative\, entirely unauthorized underwater lost-and-found department\, this is the excursion you have been waiting for. \nJoin us on Friday\, July 31st\, 2026\, for a premier day of Lost Lake diving. This single-day search-and-recovery campaign will be led by the legend himself\, the incomparable Reverend Randell. There is no boat duty for the Reverend on this trip\, and we won’t be running the shop griddle either—this operation is a pure\, unadulterated underwater treasure hunt. \nWhy Lost Lake Diving is the Ultimate Treasure Hunt\nThe bottom of this particular body of water is essentially an underwater department store with zero oversight. If a tourist can bring it on vacation\, a tourist can drop it over the side. When we engage in Lost Lake diving\, our teams routinely haul up an astonishing bounty of discarded human civilization. We are talking about everything from classic fishing weights\, expensive lures\, and entire intact rod-and-reel setups\, to unopened bottles\, GoPros\, iPhones\, sunglasses\, boat oars\, sun hats\, and full folding lawn chairs. It is anyone’s oyster—assuming you like eating out of a silty freshwater lakebed. \nThe Master Schedule (Punctuality is a Virtue)\n\n0700 Hours – Encampment & Arrival: The Reverend will be on-site early to secure our staging area and stake our claim on prime real estate. Parking fills up rapidly in late July. Arrive at 0700 sharp to claim your spot\, assemble your gear\, and size up the collection bags of your fellow divers.\n1500 Hours – The Pack Out and Inventory: We will have the Spartan transport vehicles loaded\, treasures inventoried\, and be ready to roll back down the mountain by three in the afternoon.\n\nThe Tactical Challenge of Lost Lake Diving\nFrom a thermal standpoint\, Lost Lake diving is a beautifully deceptive beast. The top twenty feet of the water column absorbs the July sun and stays remarkably warm. However\, once you cross that invisible line into the deeper trenches where the good loot hides\, the temperature drops rapidly into the bone-chilling 40s. \nThis creates a unique logistical dilemma. If you stay shallow looking for dropped sunglasses while wearing a heavy drysuit\, you risk overheating on the surface interval. If you drop below twenty feet into the sub-arctic layer in a standard summer wetsuit\, you will rapidly turn into a shivering human popsicle. For a successful day of Lost Lake diving\, a well-insulated drysuit is highly recommended. Plan your undergarments carefully\, manage your profiles\, and consult the Spartan crew on-site if you are torn on your thermal strategy. \nThe Reverend will be personally leading two distinct guided dives—one to the south end and one to the north—but you are welcome to splash as many times as you and your buddy want\, provided you are diving within your physical training limitations. \nSustenance & Survival (Fend for Yourself Edition)\nWe are bypassing the wiener roast for this trip. There will be no sausages or brats on the griddle. Divers are strictly required to bring their own lunch\, snacks\, and mid-day fuel. However\, Spartan SCUBA will still be bringing a calculated surplus of crisp water and light snacks to keep everyone hydrated between profiles\, alongside our standard suite of on-site emergency gear and dive professionals. \nCrucial Altitude Advisory & The Spartan Upgrade\nLet’s talk geography. Lost Lake sits at an elevation of approximately 3\,140 feet above sea level\, which firmly places this excursion into altitude diving territory. Because the reduced atmospheric pressure up here alters your decompression models\, all participants are strictly required to dive with and monitor a Personal Dive Computer (PDC). If your computer’s altitude settings are still a mystery to you\, don’t sweat it—our on-site team will be there to help you dial it in safely. Want to turn this treasure hunt into an official credential? We are offering our specialty Spartan SCUBA Altitude Diver Course as an optional add-on ticket for this trip. You’ll learn the science of mountain diving\, log your required profiles under an instructor’s watch\, and leave the lake with a brand-new certification card to show for it. \nLogistics\, Costs\, and Admin\nThe administrative fee for this day of Lost Lake diving is a flat $30 per person. Your admission includes premium Spartan logistics support\, shoreline safety infrastructure\, and your choice of: \n\nTwo (2) air-fills at Spartan HQ ahead of Friday if you are using your own cylinders.\nTwo (2) tank rentals for the day\, provided by the shop.\n\nNote: The entry fee does not include individual park parking or day-use fees. Vehicle access is up to the individual. All shop rental cylinders must be brought to the shop this afternoon! \nThe Fine Print: As always\, no paperwork means no bubbles. All divers must complete the SDI Liability Waiver for Guided Dives before touching the water. \nClean out your collection bags\, prep your drysuit seals\, and let’s go see what the tourists left behind for us with a little Lost Lake diving!

SUMMARY:Sunrise BBQ and Dive - a MAS and Spartan SCUBA Event
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Sunrise BBQ and Dive event\, hosted by the Maritime Archeological Society and Spartan SCUBA\, where you’ll have an unforgettable experience!\n⚓ MAS Artifact Mapping\, Photo Challenge\, & Summer BBQ! ⚓ \nWhen: Saturday\, August 1st | Operations Commence: 0800 – 1400 \nWhere: Sunrise Resort on Hood Canal (Hoodsport\, WA) \nRSVP Required: Please register via the website below\, NOT Facebook\, so we can get an accurate headcount for food! \n🔍 The Mission: Actual Wrecks & Artifacts\nDuring the Sunrise BBQ and dive event\, we will be leveling up from our last session! It’s time to take those baseline offset and trilateration skills out of the “practice zone” and apply them to actual underwater boats and artifacts. \nJoin us at the Sunrise BBQ and Dive for an incredible day filled with adventure and learning. \n\nThe Twist: We are adding an underwater photography challenge this time. You’ll be tasked with capturing clear\, identifiable documentation of your “archaeological finds” under real-world conditions.\nNon-Divers & Surface Crew Welcome! This isn’t just for those getting wet. We need surface support\, shore-based data logging\, and folks to help coordinate artifact sketches as teams exit the water. Come hang out\, learn the process\, and see how a mission comes together!\n\n📋 In-Water Skills Assessment: “Right-Seating” the Team\nDoc will be in the water running casual dive skills evaluations. Don’t sweat this—there is zero “pass or fail” here. \nWe will be looking at diver trim\, buoyancy\, communication\, and team awareness. The goal is purely Mission Classification. For example: \n\nDivers with precision buoyancy might lead the close-up measurement team.\nDivers with sharp situational awareness and solid communication might anchor our underwater photography and documentation crew.\n\nIt’s all about figuring out where your unique strengths best serve the mission when we deploy on a real wreck or artifact mission. \n🏛️ About the Maritime Archaeological Society (MAS)\n \nIf you aren’t familiar with MAS\, they are a fantastic non-profit dedicated to discovering\, documenting\, and conserving shipwrecks and submerged cultural resources right here in the Pacific Northwest. From archival research and beach surveys to technical underwater mapping\, they bridge the gap between history and active exploration. You can learn more about their incredible work on the MAS About Us Page. \nThe staff at the resort are incredibly excited to host the Sunrise BBQ and Dive\, making it a memorable occasion for all participants. \n✍️ A Note on Training & Commitment\nWe have a phenomenal roster of interested divers for this event\, and we are excited to get to work. To show your commitment to this project and to start the next level of training with the dive team\, there is one small but important prerequisite: all participants must be registered members of MAS. \nMembership directly supports the preservation of local maritime history and ensures we are all aligned as we move forward into advanced training pipelines. You can get registered in just a few minutes through the MAS Membership Page. \n🦪 The Playground: A World-Class Dive Park\nIf you haven’t dived the Sunrise Resort underwater park yet\, you are missing out on one of the premier cold-water training setups in the Pacific Northwest. Shawn and Diana have poured incredible effort into making this park a dynamic\, thriving underwater ecosystem and an unparalleled training ground. \nFrom deliberate structural attractions to the natural marine life that calls Hood Canal home\, there is a reason Spartan SCUBA has planted its flag here as official stewards and developers of the park. Want a sneak peek at the layout\, the wrecks\, and the vision before you splash? Check out the dedicated Sunrise page to see more about this beautiful resort\, midway through their complete tear-down and rebuild\, right on the water! \n\n🪵 Experience the Sunrise Resort Perks!\nThe Sunrise BBQ and Dive event is also a perfect opportunity to establish your own relationship with the resort owners and get used to top-tier shore diving amenities. They are close to being fully rebuilt\, and the facilities are looking incredible. Aside from the world-class dive park right off the shore\, standard amenities for our event day include: \n\nDedicated Gear Rinse Station: Clean off the salt kit right by the water without the usual gravel-parking-lot scramble.\nThe Post-Dive Hot Tub: The absolute best way to thaw out your core and talk story after a productive cold-water mission.\nOn-Site Cylinder Fills: No need to haul half a dozen tanks. Keep your steel and aluminum topped off right at the resort for just $10 + tax.\n\n🌭 The Shindig: Spartan SCUBA & White’s Meats Wiener Roast\nThe massive talent that is Reverend Randell\, doing one of the million things that he does best – making meat magic!\nOnce operations conclude\, it’s time to enjoy the BBQ portion of the Sunrise BBQ and Dive! \n\nProvided: White’s Country Meats is supplying a premium sausage and brat-fest\, hosted alongside Spartan SCUBA.\nRefreshments: Spartan SCUBA is providing water and sparkling N/A beverages on site.\nPotluck Style: Everyone is encouraged to bring a shareable side dish\, salad\, or dessert\, plus any personal preferred snacks or drinks.\n\n⚙️ Logistics\, Rentals\, & Fees\n\nDay-Use/Splash Fees: There is usually a $20 per-person resort day-use fee for the park. However\, a generous\, anonymous\, benefactor has taken care of this for our group! Your $20 fee can stay firmly planted in your pocket.\nGear & Cylinder Rentals: If you need tanks or gear\, early communication is vital. Please lock in your rental requests with Spartan SCUBA no later than Thursday\, July 30th so we can have everything staged and ready.\n\nSo that’s it – that’s all I’ve got. If this doesn’t excite you about our Sunrise BBQ and dive event\, hosted by MAS and Spartan SCUBA\, then I don’t know what will! \n➡️ Follow us on Facebook!
