It’s time to take those baseline offset and trilateration skills out of the “practice zone” and apply them to actual underwater boats and artifacts. \nJoin us at the Sunrise BBQ and Dive for an incredible day filled with adventure and learning. \n\nThe Twist: We are adding an underwater photography challenge this time. You’ll be tasked with capturing clear\, identifiable documentation of your “archaeological finds” under real-world conditions.\nNon-Divers & Surface Crew Welcome! This isn’t just for those getting wet. We need surface support\, shore-based data logging\, and folks to help coordinate artifact sketches as teams exit the water. Come hang out\, learn the process\, and see how a mission comes together!\n\n📋 In-Water Skills Assessment: “Right-Seating” the Team\nDoc will be in the water running casual dive skills evaluations. Don’t sweat this—there is zero “pass or fail” here. \nWe will be looking at diver trim\, buoyancy\, communication\, and team awareness. The goal is purely Mission Classification. For example: \n\nDivers with precision buoyancy might lead the close-up measurement team.\nDivers with sharp situational awareness and solid communication might anchor our underwater photography and documentation crew.\n\nIt’s all about figuring out where your unique strengths best serve the mission when we deploy on a real wreck or artifact mission. \n🏛️ About the Maritime Archaeological Society (MAS)\n \nIf you aren’t familiar with MAS\, they are a fantastic non-profit dedicated to discovering\, documenting\, and conserving shipwrecks and submerged cultural resources right here in the Pacific Northwest. From archival research and beach surveys to technical underwater mapping\, they bridge the gap between history and active exploration. When the call goes out\, we are the team heading into the water. Public safety and black-water recovery operations demand absolute precision\, and this training ensures our divers remain razor-sharp and prepared for the zero-visibility challenges of our local Pacific Northwest waters. \nOur commitment to carrying this shield and answering the call comes down to a few immutable principles: \n\nBringing Closure: To stand ready in the darkest hours\, providing answers and closure to families who have experienced unimaginable loss.\nSecuring Evidence: To utilize advanced technical diving skills to locate and retrieve critical evidence that has been cast into Davey Jones’ Locker\, ensuring justice is served.\nStewardship & Duty: To step up\, master a difficult skill set\, and simply be good people who serve the community when it matters most.\n\n🚨 Answer the Call: Join the Team\nWe actively recruit all year long for the SAR team.
